Chamomile Tea Details

Chamomile Tea is one of the oldest and best-loved herbal teas in the world: a gentle, naturally caffeine-free infusion of dried chamomile flowers. Ours is organic loose leaf chamomile with soft floral notes and warm apple and honey undertones. It is a simple, single-ingredient cup for quiet evenings or any time of day.

  • Size: 1 oz of loose leaf tea.
  • Ingredient: Organic chamomile flowers.
  • Caffeine: Naturally caffeine-free.
  • Brew: 1–2 teaspoons per 8 oz of water just below boiling. Steep 5–7 minutes, covered, then strain.

What Is Chamomile Tea?

Chamomile tea is made from the dried flowers of the chamomile plant, a small, daisy-like herb with white petals and a yellow center. Most chamomile tea comes from German chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla). The name comes from the Greek for "ground apple," a nod to the fresh, apple-like scent of the flowers.

People have brewed chamomile for thousands of years, from ancient Egypt and Greece to European and American kitchens today. It is not made from the tea plant, so it contains no caffeine, which is why it has long been a favorite evening cup. For more, read our full guide to chamomile tea.

Meet Our Chamomile

Open the bag and you get the sweet, hay-and-apple scent of dried chamomile flowers. Steeped, it brews a clear golden-yellow cup. The flavor is soft and floral, with warm apple and honey undertones and a gently earthy base. It is mellow and smooth, with no bitterness, and good plain or with a little honey. Packed to order in a 1 oz size.

How To Brew Chamomile Tea

Hot: use 1 to 2 teaspoons per 8 oz of water just below boiling. Cover the cup and steep 5 to 7 minutes, then strain. Chamomile is forgiving, so a longer steep simply gives a fuller, more honeyed cup.

With honey or lemon: a spoonful of honey brings out the apple notes; a slice of lemon brightens it.

Iced: brew it double-strength, let it cool, and pour over ice, or cold brew 2 tablespoons in 32 oz of cold water in the fridge for 8 to 12 hours.

Blend it: chamomile pairs well with a pinch of our lavender buds, lemon balm or peppermint leaf.

Is Chamomile Tea Caffeine-Free?

Yes. Chamomile is an herbal tea made from flowers, not from the tea plant, so it is naturally caffeine-free. That makes it a classic choice for the evening and for anyone avoiding caffeine. For more caffeine-free cups, browse our calming evening teas and herbal teas.

Chamomile Tea FAQ

Is chamomile tea caffeine-free?

+
Yes. Chamomile is made from dried flowers, not the tea plant, so it is naturally caffeine-free.

What does chamomile tea taste like?

+
Soft and floral, with warm apple and honey notes and a gently earthy base. It is mellow and smooth with no bitterness.

How long should I steep chamomile tea?

5 to 7 minutes in water just below boiling, with the cup covered. Longer steeps give a fuller, more honeyed flavor without turning bitter.

How much chamomile do I use per cup?

Can I drink chamomile at night?

+
Yes. Being caffeine-free and mellow, chamomile is a traditional evening tea and a popular part of a wind-down routine.

+
Honey is a classic addition and brings out the apple notes. Some people also add a splash of milk for a softer, creamier cup.

Who should avoid chamomile?

People allergic to plants in the daisy family, such as ragweed, should be cautious. If you are pregnant, nursing or take medication, check with your provider first.
