  • Ingredients: Organic chaga mushroom, cinnamon, ginger root, cardamom, coconut and rooibos.
  • Caffeine: Naturally caffeine-free.
  • Brew: 1–2 teaspoons per 8 oz of water just below boiling. Steep 6–8 minutes, then strain.

What Is Chaga Chai?

Chai is the Hindi word for tea, and in the West "chai" usually means a spiced milk tea made with cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and other warm spices, traditionally on a black tea base. Our Chaga Chai keeps the spices but swaps the black tea for rooibos, a naturally caffeine-free South African herb with a smooth, slightly sweet flavor.

Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) is a fungus that grows on birch trees in cold northern forests. It has been brewed as a tea in Siberia and Northern Europe for centuries and adds a rich, earthy, almost coffee-like depth under the spice.

Meet Our Chaga Chai

Open the bag and you get cinnamon and cardamom first, with sweet coconut and warm ginger behind them. Steeped, it brews a deep reddish-brown cup with pronounced cinnamon spice, creamy coconut roundness, aromatic cardamom and an earthy chaga undertone. It is excellent plain and even better with warm milk and a little honey. Packed to order in a 1 oz size.

How To Brew Chaga Chai

Hot: use 1 to 2 teaspoons per 8 oz of water just below boiling and steep 6 to 8 minutes, then strain. Rooibos and spices do not turn bitter, so a longer steep just gives a bolder cup.

Chai latte: steep 2 teaspoons in 4 oz of hot water for 8 minutes, strain, then add 4 to 6 oz of warm frothed milk (dairy, oat or coconut) and honey or maple syrup to taste.

Stovetop: simmer 2 teaspoons in 1 cup of water for 5 minutes, add ¾ cup of milk, bring back just to a simmer and strain.

Is Chaga Chai Caffeine-Free?

Yes. Unlike traditional chai, which is made with black tea, our Chaga Chai uses rooibos as its base, and chaga and the spices contain no caffeine. That makes it a good evening chai. For more caffeine-free options, browse our herbal teas.
