Organic Black Tea is our everyday loose leaf black tea: a bold, classic cup from organic, single-origin leaves. It is full-bodied and malty, with warm toasted notes, subtle caramel undertones and a naturally brisk finish. Versatile enough for plain, milk, sweet or iced tea, it is the black tea to keep on hand for every day.

- Ingredient: Organic single-origin black tea (Camellia sinensis).
- Caffeine: Contains caffeine, roughly 40–70 mg per 8 oz cup.
- Brew: 1–2 teaspoons per 8 oz of water just off the boil (200–212°F). Steep 3–5 minutes, then strain.
What Is Black Tea?
Black tea is made from the Camellia sinensis plant, the same plant as green, white and oolong tea. What makes it black is full oxidation: the leaves are rolled and left to oxidize completely before drying, which turns them dark and gives black tea its copper color, deeper flavor and more caffeine than other teas.
Black tea is the most widely drunk tea in the West, the base of classics like English Breakfast and Earl Grey. For a tour of the main black tea regions and styles, read our guide to the types of black tea.
Meet Our Organic Black Tea
Our organic black tea brews a deep copper cup with a warm, malty aroma. The flavor is full-bodied and malty, with warm toasted notes, subtle caramel undertones and a naturally brisk, satisfying finish. It is smooth enough to drink plain and strong enough to take milk and sugar. Packed to order in a 1 oz size.
How To Brew Black Tea
Hot: heat water to just off the boil (200–212°F). Use 1 to 2 teaspoons per 8 oz and steep 3 to 5 minutes, then strain: 3 minutes for a smoother cup, 5 for a stronger one.
With milk: steep the full 4 to 5 minutes so the tea stands up to the milk.
Iced or sweet tea: brew double-strength (2 teaspoons per 8 oz for 4 minutes), sweeten while hot if you like, then pour over ice.
How Much Caffeine Is In Black Tea?
A typical 8 oz cup of black tea has roughly 40–70 mg of caffeine, about half of a similar cup of brewed coffee. A shorter steep gives a gentler cup. For no caffeine, try our honeybush (the closest caffeine-free match to black tea) or other herbal teas.
